Description | |
Wood, painted, L. 50 cm, W. 38 cm (bottom panel), H. 22 cm (roof) In the models of the early Middle Kingdom cattle appear in different contexts, as draught animals drawing ploughs, as sacrificial animals in a herds or slaughter scenes and in the famous cattle count model in the Cairo Museum. This Munich model may well be compared with the latter. Although it does not include as many animals and figures, the motif of the group of cattle resting under a canopy is unique to these two models. The artistic quality of the animal figures for this object group is also unusual, only the somewhat stiff cowherds correspond to the usual standard. Auto. Transl. from Schoske-1995 | |
