Description | |
Adapted from Ombres d'Egypte (p. 81): Model of donkeys and drivers Painted wood. 33.7cm x 21.6 cm (plinth) H (max) 23 cm Unknown provenance (Saqqarah?) - Middle Kingdom The donkey does not appear very often in models of the Middle Kingdom, although it always played an important economic role. This is the ultimate beast of burden, carrying men and goods. Thus the scene reproduced by this model is part of everyday life for the Egyptians, even after the introduction of the horse, which is found almost exclusively in the royal studs. | |
