Description
Breasted: 2. Chicago, Oriental Institute, 10636 (Pl. 9b). With most of his weight on his left foot, which is slightly forward, a man wearing a short skirt leans markedly forward. His head looks down only a very little from the horizontal. Propped up against his left shin and held from falling forward by his two hands, is a circular container evidently full to the brim, since the hands appear to lie on the upper surface of whatever it holds. The man's hair is in low raised relief. The actual base on which he and the circular container stand is inlaid neatly into a second larger base; hence the two sets of measurements given for this example. In 1920, when it was first put on exhibition by the Chicago Oriental Institute, this figure was grouped with the three harpists treated on pp. 86-87, and was considered a drummer.
The current catalog of the ISAC (prev. Or.Inst.) gives 10636 as the Acc.No. of a photograph of aa large group of stone models, of which this is only one.
